Maria & Ian’s Wedding Day at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall York
Another beautiful sunny day in old York town and another perfect day for a red wedding at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall York! That’s right a red wedding as Maria is from Hong Kong so she opted for traditional colours which looked stunning. It was so nice to have all this vibrant colour coming from the bride and photographically looked rich and lovely, every shot just popped. I’ll be surprised if I ever photograph another wedding with a red dress so I wanted to make the most of it and really showcase all the tradition and the colour of the Chinese culture.
The traditional part of the day started well before the ceremony too with Maria and Ian having a traditional tea ceremony with some of Maria’s family and friends. They had stayed in the Lawrence luxury apartments on Micklegate and this is where I met them both to start our day. The room was decorated with lots of Chinese symbols and decorations and the tea was poured for us all and was a lovely fruity flavour which was very tasty indeed. Before long we were heading across the road to their church for the ceremony.
The church was filled with their friends and family and it was great to see some familiar faces in Mr and Mrs Elcock whom recommended me to Maria and Ian.
Another dash through town to the Merchant Taylors’ Hall York and we were greeted by the smell of the lovely open fire they have there and the amazing food provided by poppy catering. As the guests got settled down it wasn’t long before the children got a bit restless which made for some wonderful images. The light was pouring through the old stain glass windows which made a superb backdrop to their playing and games.
With a fun and emotional set of speeches in the bag all the guests were able to chat with the lovely bride and groom to the mellow and soothing sounds of the harpist playing in the background.
Congratulations Maria and Ian all the best and I hope to see you both again soon!
